[He can power through his misery for some hatred. Pinning his anger on Mother Superior isn't the best coping mechanism, but he's not known for his good choices.]

[Even if he wanted to leave, Atsushi probably wouldn't make it out the door. So he has to accept.]

Take your time. You aren't feeling well either, are you?

I'm a little under the weather. It's just a small cold, I'll be fine.

[She felt awful, but she'd brave through it. Besides as long as she stayed hydrated and didn't do too much her head didn't spin that much. And the cough had been a bit more manageable than the sneezing.]

I'll bring tea and soup too.

You only need to bring yourself. I'll take care of the rest.

[He can rage brew some tea before she arrives.]

But she has so much she has to do, and Rei has enough to handle.

[He would suggest someone else, but worries it isn't his place. So Atsushi groans before typing his reply;]

Be careful, then.

I'll freshen up your room.

[At a snail's pace. But he can't stand to be useless.]

[Makoto wouldn't want someone having to take care of her, she'd just power through on her own. Besides she had to help everyone else when they came back.]

I'll be there soon. Just take a nap and we can worry about the room later.

Alright.

[Except he 100% isn't taking a nap. He's of a similar mindset, not wanting to rely on anyone else too much. He doesn't want to be troublesome. Nor does he really understand how to accept help.

But he won't get far. He gets as far as the kitchen before he needs to rest against the wall. There's no electricity. He can't even heat water to make tea for ochazuke. October sucks. Dying sucks.]

[It took a little longer than usual to walk from her apartment to Usagi's house, but she was being careful, trying to make sure that she avoided any of the monsters that might have still been around.

Standing out front she knocked, holding a bag full of water and food that ranged from riceballs to different soups.]

Sushi-kun?

[Atsushi groans, pulling himself out of a feverish dream. When did he doze off? His ears are ringing, but he hears a voice break through the haze. Shaky on his legs, he drags himself to his feet and hobbles to the door.]

Comiiing. [And fumbles with the lock. Miserably pale and breathless from something so easy, he struggles to make eye contact with Makoto.]

Makoto-chan... Hello.

Sorry to bother you, I didn't have a key.

[Stepping in Makoto closed the door and locked it back. Besides being a little flush it would be hard to tell that she was sick. Though she was being careful not to get too close to Sushi since she was statically charged. Otherwise she would have given him a hug, it was hard to meet his eye contact though since she still blamed herself for him being killed.]

How bad is it? Do you just want to lay down while I make some soup?

[Two can play at that game. While Atsushi is more obviously sick, he's just as stubborn. He leans against the wall and makes a noise of dismissal instead of shaking his head. Headshakes would be too painful.]

I can stay up. I can help. How about you?

[He's also feeling guilty. If he had only put his foot down before and insisted on helping her with Serenity... maybe neither of them would be dead. Maybe they could have done something.]

[Suppressing a cough she nodded, heading towards the living room. Even if he wanted to stay up he could at least sit down before he fell over. Plus she needed to sit a rest for a minute as well.]

I could hardly move yesterday, and couldn't really eat anything. But it's been better today. I'm just a little tired still.

I'm thankful that you're back though. I was worried, Vira-Lorr told me. There were so many.

[Atsushi follows after her. An excuse to sit down won't be passed up, even if he's too stubborn to sleep. He has to keep moving. He can't slow down. There's no point to anything if he stops moving.]

There were...?

[How many more? He doesn't really want an answer. One was already too much. Atsushi has never actually killed anyone that he remembers, so he can't comprehend how guilty Usagi will feel.]

Usagi-san... She'll wake up as herself, right?

[Setting down the bag, she grabbed a pair of waters, offering one to Atsushi. She had tried to get it out off her mind, but all the names that Vira-Lorr mentioned still echoed around in the fog of her thoughts.]

Rei thinks that she will, and she's been here for a long time so I trust her. They were there, Rei and Setsuna, they kept her from doing something worse.

[Makoto squeezed the bottle in her hand, Setsuna, she'd have to check on her too when she came back. But right now she needed to focus on the one in front of her, Atsushi was the one she could be there for right now.]

Are you going to stay? After what happened are you ok with being here?

[He didn’t realize how thirsty he was until she offered him the water. Prior to dying, he had been trying to ration his water strictly; Reminding himself that being dehydrated was normal at the orphanage, so he should be the one who toughed it out.

Today he unscrews the lid. He needs to drink, or he won’t get any better.]

[She knew that Usagi would blame herself for everything, she'd feel guilty. And though she wouldn't admit, Makoto knew that she counted on Atsushi, Makoto counted on him too. Starting to reach out to take his hand she stopped, instead crossing it over her body to hold her other arm.]

I'd like it if you stayed.

[undermoonlight]

[In a rare moment of properly placed empathy, Atsushi notices her hand reaching out and chases it with his own. Even if it means covering her hand over her arm.]

Then I will. We're stronger together?

[Though,] I'm sorry. I should have gone with you.

[thunderingcourage]

Together.

[She hadn't expected him to reach after her, and was relieved a little when he did as she turned her hand so that they were intertwined.]

Neither of us knew what was going to happen. You needed to be here in case she had come home, or someone else came for her. I'm sorry that I didn't make it back.

[Atsushi shakes his head. A slow effort, because he doesn't want to aggravate his headache.]

No. I should have been with you. [He unconsciously gives her hand a light squeeze,] Usagi-chan is important, but so are you. I should never have left you to do everything yourself.
