PERSONALITY:
A first impression of Atsushi may almost lead one to believe he is a pushover. He is polite, conflict avoidant, and often anxious. Atsushi is one to drop a conversation if he feels tensions rising. Atsushi tries very hard not to insult or hurt those around him, which results in timid and sometimes skittish behavior. He has very low self-esteem, something that has been drilled into him after eighteen years of horrible physical and mental abuse. Though the series shows Atsushi learning to overcome this, he is still plagued with self-doubts and quick to give up his safety to help others. Oftentimes at the cost of his own well-being.

Atsushi is also cheerful and sincerely kind. He values life and living above all else. Even if he thinks ill of himself, Atsushi never gives up. Not on himself, or others. Our very first introduction to him in the anime shows a him vowing to rob the next person he sees, because he absolutely will not accept death by starvation. Even though he has learned to hate his very existence, Atsushi refuses to die. He works very hard, through his own skewed logic, to justify his existence. Because Atsushi wants to live.
When Atsushi emotes positively, he does so openly. There is no filter on his big smiles, nor does he hide his moments of snark or curiosity. He's glad to be alive and grateful for his new positive environment, enough so to show it. He may be pessimistic about his self image, but Atsushi is an optimist when it comes to living day to day.

His value for the lives of others is another strong factor to his character. Coupled with his low self-esteem, Atsushi will go through intense personal suffering if he thinks he can help someone. He grew up believing that his life had no meaning unless he helped others and he was guilted for being an orphan. Again and again, Atsushi throws himself in harm's way for others. Whether he's covering a bomb with his body, fighting until he should bleed out, or jumping off an airship, Atsushi is also incredibly reckless in this pursuit. One of his abilities is self-regeneration and he has been shown to abuse it, thinking "better me than them."

He is also incredibly stubborn, especially when it comes to helping others. Atsushi does not give up on anyone, no matter how hopeless a situation may seem. If he cannot find a happy way to end a conflict, Atsushi will struggle until he makes one. At one point, he even has to be physically dragged away from a sad situation, because otherwise he would never have given up. Partially due to his upbringing, Atsushi believes in the strong helping the needy. He wants to be the person his childhood self needed, not the person he feared. He applies this mindset both to fights, where he runs himself physically ragged to help others, and to his daily life, such as when he lets Kyoka drain his finances.

There are less extreme ways that this will to help shows itself. Atsushi rarely says no, for example, and often ends up helping his co-workers with tasks no one else wants to do. This includes everything from doing Dazai's paperwork to carrying Yosano's shopping bags. Even if he has self-doubts, Atsushi will often prioritize his faith in another person. He might initially have doubts about the jobs he's given, but Atsushi has never rejected one. He believes in those around him enough to trust their judgment above his own.

Due to being in an orphanage for most of his life, Atsushi is naive and innocent. It's easy to trick him or take advantage of him, and he often ends up as the subject of teasing. He is also prone to following authority figures. This is why he takes nearly any order given to him by other Agency members. When an order conflicts with his moral code, Atsushi will timidly take a stand. But it is a soft rebellion, with his self-doubt and morals in conflict.

All of this certainly paints Atsushi as a kind and gentle person, but don't be fooled. Atsushi is purposefully ignoring his less desirable traits, particularly his temper. He never learned how to respond to his mistreatment, but only how to bottle it up. When his negative emotions get big, he'll often explode with no understanding of how to deal with them. He rages violently at Akutagawa, because his anger and hatred are too much for him. Similarly, when he snaps under the pressure of sadness or self-hatred then he will spiral in unfiltered self-loathing.
His terrible upbringing also leads to a complicated relationship with "violence." Atsushi hates it when the strong (Orphanage Director) hurt the weak (young Atsushi.) On one hand, this causes him to stubbornly fight against anyone who is "bad violent." People who hurt others for self-benefit, like Akutagawa, can trigger his temper. Atsushi does not want to understand these people either, because he fears a complicated world where he has to understand his own abuser.

Similarly, Atsushi fears the violence in himself. His entire ability is hinged on destruction. Even his healing ability only allows him to be violent for longer. Up until Dead Apple, Atsushi denied his ability by only using it to help others. He believed that he could justify his violent existence by using it to save people. The events of Dead Apple forced Atsushi to realize that he has the capacity to hurt others, but that violence is complicated. In particular, he had to learn to live with the fact he had killed someone out of self defense. He's now having to face the fact that things may be more complicated than he wanted to acknowledge, particularly in terms to how he treats a 'bad violent' person like Akutagawa.

All in all... Atsushi is a survivor. He's still only just learning to live, but he isn't going to waste a minute of it.

POWER:
Were-Tiger (Beast Beneath the Moonlight) (CANON):: Atsushi has the ability to turn into a white tiger. This also includes a partial transformation, where Atsushi is able to change only his arms or legs into tiger form, and a half-way transformation, where he is basically a furry. Atsushi will generally stick to only his arms and legs.

The Were-Tiger ability gives Atsushi strength, stamina, and speed. He is able to take down a group of armed men on his own with that strength, while his maximum speed has allowed him to be an invisible blur when infiltrating an enemy base. Atsushi has also been shown to benefit from an enhanced sense of smell, hearing, and sight.
However while Atsushi is in control of the ability within the anime, it should be noted that his ability is not naturally controlled. Another ability user uses something called "All Men Are Equal" to water down Atsushi's ability and make it more manageable. For MoM, I will consider his ability modified to be within his control.

Atsushi can also become a heckin' Tiger. The Tiger seems to be a separate entity, as Atsushi frequently monologues to it like it has its own opinions and feelings. He does not seem able to force the full transformation. The Tiger has only taken over in instances where Atsushi needed its help (falling without a parachute? tiger.) or because of exposure to the moonlight. Since the effects "All Men Are Equal," Atsushi has not been shown to have any concerns about the moonlight.

Since I am playing him as if those watered down limitations still exist, I hope it's okay if I do not have to deal with monthly Tiger attacks. But if the mod team would like Atsushi turning into a Tiger every full moon, I am open to changing this.

Healing / Regeneration (CANON):: Because of the tiger, Atsushi is able to self-heal from most injuries. Combined with his higher than normal pain tolerance, Atsushi can take an inhuman amount of damage and still stand back up. He has been stabbed, stabbed some more, and then turned into a stabbing pin cushion; Only to recover and get right back to fighting. Because this is a part of his character's psychology, I would like to leave his regeneration unchanged.

But massive injuries (like lose of limb,) can only be healed in his tiger form. Atsushi still feels pain and can be incapacitated by it; It just takes something like losing a limb to phase him. When Atsushi is under extreme duress, the Tiger will take over and force regeneration. In the case that the Tiger has to take over, it would rampage until Atsushi was safe enough to change back. The Tiger can be nullified by a nullifying ability, changing Atsushi back into a human. Atsushi never remembers what his Tiger form does and passes out when changing back.

Atsushi's ability to heal from most injuries also increases his stamina and allows him to keep fighting when a normal person might be unable. He seems to run partially on adrenaline, as he usually passes out after a long or hard fight.

Third Umbrella::None

COMMUNITY POST (VOICE) SAMPLE:
[News of the two celebrations brought both excitement... and anxiety. Because there were two big summer celebrations happening; Something about frogs and strawberries in Nonah, and something about spiders in Jeopardy. Atsushi can't justify going to both, but he'd certainly like to try at least one of them.]

Sorry to intrude? [Can you intrude on networks? He shakes his head.] I've never been to Nonah or Jeopardy, but I heard there were festivals there? I... I can't say I've ever been to a summer festival in America. Or a festival about spiders.

[He sounds slightly skeptical about that topic at all. But who is he to judge??]

Is there some protocol I need to follow? Should I be dressing up? Or do I have to bring a gift? Is there an entry fee? [As he lists his concerns, Atsushi can hear how silly he must sound. It's a festival; Not visiting someone's house or visiting an amusement park! But he has a reputation to maintain here and he intends to do a good job. 'Hero' is such a heavy title, even without the public eye on him.]

I'd like to attend one of them, but I don't want to offend anyone either. It must take a long time and a lot of effort to set these up. And... I'd really hate to be the one who spoiled the fun by being rude.

Uh. [Atsushi's expression becomes strained by nerves,] Thank you in advanced for the help!

LOGS POST (PROSE) SAMPLE:
((based on the tdm prompts))
Wow... This is amazing.

[Atsushi has never seen a lemonade stand before. Standing in Nonah, North Carolina, he is awed by the sight before him. The streets are lined with children and their stalls. As someone who grew up in an orphanage, seeing so many children act this independently is awe-inspiring... And bizare. America really is different, huh?

At the first stand, Atsushi immediately makes a purchase with his meager cash. He can't help but support a kid with entrepreneurial dreams, after all. He did register to be a hero and shouldn't a hero be helping others? So at the next stand, too-- Then the next one. And the next one. Falling for every trick and cash falling into every palm. Atsushi keeps making purchases, not wanting any one child to be left out.

Pretty soon, he's realizing that his wallet is not strong enough to beat a bunch of business savvy children. He does manage to pull himself to the side, away from the money hungry kids, where he examines his leftover money. Which is so little that the kids seem to have given up on asking for it.]

Porters don't cost money, do they..? And I can eat the cookies for a meal, so... [He sighs,] It's money well spent.

[He closes his wallet, unable to bear how empty it is.] Just gotta keep saying that.
