Original Deerington Application

• Atsushi has now spent more time in Deerington than he did in Yokohama City. This has been causing him a lot of stress, since having a home to belong to meant a lot to an orphan like Atsushi. While he values his relationships from Deerington, he harbors an anxiety that they are beginning to replace his relationships from Yokohama. For example, he has begun to view Vyng as an authority figure in the place of Kunikida and Dazai. He has begun to view Usagi as a sister figure, similar to how he was loyal to Kyouka (this being extra unsettling since Kyouka also loves rabbits and is the exact same height as Usagi.) This is why he puts so much value in his items from home, whether it be his ADA uniform or the ADA issued handgun. Atsushi is terrified of his memories of Yokohama fading and uses these physical items to ground him.

All in all, he's not sure where his "home" is and feels quite lost as a result. Especially since;

• While in Deerington, Atsushi got a girlfriend! He started dating Makoto Kino after some pushing and prodding from Usagi. However, Atsushi is still very new to the idea of dating. He doesn't understand what's expected of him and is aware of the fact that he's not very romantically minded. Atsushi has tried to impress Makoto with cooking, birthday plans, and elaborate date ideas, but he still doesn't think that he can be a good boyfriend. He also struggles with the fact that Makoto and him are not from the same time or world, so their relationship may ultimately be temporary. Dating is hard.

• He's had a very positive relationship with Usagi Tsukino, which both counteracts his 'lost' feeling and makes it that much worse. Usagi gave him not just a roof over his head, but someone to return to everyday. Taking care of her and seeing her happy was a driving force for him in Deerington and helped him cope with a lot of the trauma there. Because of this, he's also willing to overlook her flaws and forgiveness her endlessly (some of his stubborn 'black and white' logic at play.) Even when she killed him as Serenity, Atsushi chose to blame Mother Superior rather than deal with the idea of Usagi having flaws.

• While Atsushi is not comfortable with the idea of having parents, he has come to see Vyng as an authority figure. He has learned to depend on him during the full moon and opened up to Vyng more than anyone else about his childhood abuse. He's never seen Vyng in any horrific situations or seen him to be shaken, but it would unsettle Atsushi to see that. Right now, Vyng is a source of stability that helps Atsushi stay grounded.

• He's begun to reconcile with the Tiger. Vyng has done a good job of teaching Atsushi not to fear his power quite as much. As a result, Atsushi is less inclined to hide from his power. However, he never fully got over his regenerative power issues in Deerington and will continue to throw himself head first into painful situations.

• Atsushi has a grudge against Mother Superior, which never got resolved. He uses her as a scapegoat for all of the horrors in Deerington, in the same way that he used to use Akutagawa. It's going to be very hard for Atsushi to amend his view on her. Doing so would mean acknowledging Serenity's murder spree, his participation in the murder trials, the people he's failed to save, etc.

Were-Tiger( Beast Beneath the Moonlight )

Atsushi's key ability is the ability to turn into a white tiger. The Tiger seems to be a separate entity inside Atsushi's soul, as he often talks to it and about it like it is a separate being.

His ability comes down to superstrength and agility. Atsushi's Were-Tiger transformation has three stages: Changing his arms/legs only, a ?furry? transformation, and straight-up becoming a giant ass tiger. With each stage, Atsushi has more and more physical strength. He also has heightened senses of sight, hearing, and smell.

An additional note worth mentioning is that Atsushi doesn't seem to have total control over his ability. Prior to joining the agency, Atsushi was so out of control that he was often chained up in a basement. He would transform into full tiger form under the moonlight and wreck havoc. When a full tiger, he has no memory of his transformation.

Self Regeneration

One of Atsushi's key abilities is that he can heal his injuries almost instantly. Combined with his disregard for his own well-being, this means that Atsushi can keep fighting when a normal person would give up. His healing ability applies to everything from scratches, to stabs in the chest, to losing his leg. While he still feels pain and eventually gets exhausted, Atsushi will push recklessly until he collapses.

There does seem to be a connection between how rapidly Atsushi heals and 'how active' the Tiger is. When Atsushi gets stabbed during a date with Kyoka, he passes out. But when he faces the same injury, but with as a WereTiger, he is able to stand up. Similarly, when Atsushi lost his leg he was taken over by the Tiger in order to heal it.

Atsushi's ability to self-heal is a very important component of his character, as it highlights how he disregards his own well-being for the sake of others. The fact that he will take so much damage without quitting may be a shounen protagonist staple, but in Atsushi's case it is also a result of his psychological damage.

Atsushi's blood powers will be an addition to his Weretiger powers. Namely, I would like to use the hallucinations ability to share Atsushi's own stress-induced hallucinations. They cannot hurt him or anyone else, but will make it easier for other characters to understand what's going through his mind.
